Advanced Methodology

How an AIN valuation is built: the VIN, the comparable vehicles listed near you, and adjustments you can read line by line.

01. VIN Decoding

Traditional valuation books start from "Year, Make, Model". We decode the 17-digit VIN to identify the exact factory build before pricing it.

  • Year, make, model and trim
  • Engine, drivetrain and body style
  • Fuel type (drives a separate adjustment)

02. Local Comparables

We do not use a monthly guidebook. Each valuation is computed on request from comparable vehicles listed for sale near your ZIP code.

  • Active listings near your ZIP
  • Matched on year, model, trim and mileage
  • Asking prices, not guaranteed sale prices

03. Itemized Result

Every valuation shows its work: the adjustments applied, a value range, and a confidence score based on how well the comparables support it.

  • Mileage and title adjustments
  • Value range with a confidence score
  • An audit record of the inputs used

Bounded by Validation

When the comparables don't support a tight figure, AIN caps the confidence or withholds the range instead of presenting false precision. A valuation is an estimate, not an offer or a guarantee.

Editorial Guidelines & Data Ethics

"Mission: used-car values you can check, built from data you can see."

1. The "Zero-Fabrication" Mandate

AIN operates under a strict Empirical Data Policy: a figure we cannot support with data is shown as unavailable, not estimated.

  • Grounded Values: Valuation figures come from the comparable listings and adjustments shown in each report.
  • No Speculation: If a data point is missing, we show a gap rather than invent it. We prioritize "Data Gaps" over "False Certainty."

2. Expert-Led, AI-Powered

Our content ecosystem is a collaboration between subject matter experts and advanced computation (The "Hybrid Authority" Model):

  • Human Authority: Our strategic market analysis, "Pillar Pages," and methodology reviews are authored or audited by seasoned automotive market analysts, data scientists, and industry researchers.
  • AI Assistance: We use AI to help draft guide content. Drafts are reviewed by people before publication.

3. Data Provenance & Verification

Every valuation and trend report published on AIN is traceable to a source.

  • Outlier Handling: Comparables far outside the rest are excluded, and closer matches carry more weight, so a single odd listing does not set the value.
  • Correction: Each valuation is computed when you request it, from the listings available then. If an error is identified by our team or a user, we correct it.
